The Start of Saturate School

When you have no expectations other than to be in awe of God, everything is possible. That is exactly what happened as we walked through the Shiyaz community. After a couple of months of prayer walks and spending time in the community, the Lord made it clear what He was calling us to do: open a street school!

Due to income, transportation, and residency status, many kids are not attending school. We noticed many children walking through the streets from the time the sun came up until it set. Through prayer and partnering with Zamo, the One Life pastor in the community, we began Saturate School.

Before beginning, we spent much time praying for wisdom on the right time, place, structure, and details of this school. We are called not to hinder kids from coming to Jesus, and that is the last thing we want to do. In order for this school to truly saturate kids with the gospel, God has to run it—and He has.

A few volunteers go out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for a few hours in the afternoon. Each day, they sit on the street in a different area of the community. By being on the street, they are visible to everyone, and no matter the age, all are welcome to join. It also creates opportunities to connect with the community as the Holy Spirit leads. By being in a different area of the community each time, they are able to reach more kids and more families.

After praying about the first week of Saturate School, the Lord put it on our hearts to begin with Mark 10:13–16. We wanted kids to know right away that Jesus has such a deep love for them that He even tells us, as adults, not to stop them from coming to Him. We created paper airplanes to share this message with the kids. Just as airplanes fly, we are called to fly to Jesus. They loved making and decorating the paper airplanes!

We started with only a few kids at the beginning of each session, but by the end of our time we would have over 25 kids. We got to learn many names and discover what the kids like and don't like. The language barrier was a bit tricky, but thankfully one of our volunteers was able to translate for us. There was laughter, music, and even some dancing.

We even had a handful of people from the community sitting outside their homes, watching to see what we were doing. This is only the beginning of Saturate School! We have no expectations other than to be in awe of God and watch Him saturate Shiyaz with His glory.
